Cloud Engineer

A contract-to-hire opportunity is available for a Cloud Engineer who will perform special projects or tasks in a timely manner, as assigned by team leader or Management. The role requires an understanding of Cloud Technologies and Services, Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban), and IT Operations based on ITIL Framework. The Cloud Engineer's primary focus is to utilize available data and trending information in order to improve efficiency and performance across product lines. Other duties include implementing policy, procedure and control; documentation; and service request fulfillment.

Accountabilities:

  • Develop strategy and automation to maximize resource utilization and minimize costs
  • Look for opportunities to automate anything and everything
  • Maintain a data warehouse containing cloud resource utilization and cloud billing details
  • Drive towards simple, scalable solutions to difficult problems
  • Help the team adopt technology and methodology
  • Contribute to best practice with written documentation and stand-ups
  • Ensures the health of the service meets defined service level expectations
  • Participate in incident management and communications, including follow-up with problem resolution post-mortem, and process improvement
  • Assist with cost analyses, forecasts, and recommendations to leadership on a monthly basis

Required Skills:

  • Cloud experience
  • Experience with DevOps related automation tools to include, but not limited to: source mgmt. (Git, CodeCommit); continuous integration (Jenkins, Jarvis), application configuration management (Chef, Puppet, Ansible) and container management tools (Docker, AWS ECS)
  • Systems administration expertise (Windows, Linux)
  • Scripting technologies (PowerShell, Bash, Python)
  • Enterprise Monitoring Tools for infrastructure and applications
  • ITIL Foundations and Intermediate Level Transition, Operations, and Continuous Improvement
  • Enterprise ITSM and CMDB Tools
  • Data Networks - routing, firewalls, load balancers, DNS
  • Databases - relational and NoSQL
  • Storage architecture and technologies
  • Security - Access Management, Key Management
  • Cloud Architectures
  • Automation in a cloud environment - Infrastructure as Code, especially using AWS
  • Experience with core cloud services; desired experience with billing, cost management, and data visualization tools such as BigQuery, Data Studio, Cost Explorer
  • Experience with CloudFormation
  • SDLC and Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment concepts
  • Risk, Security, and Audit compliance


Desired Qualifications:

  • 1 year of experience with AWS or GCP; certification desired
  • 1 year of experience with Enterprise ITIL Processes
  • 1 year of experience with enterprise ITSM or ticketing system
  • 1 year of experience with monitoring enterprise systems
  • 1 year of experience in data center domains (server, network, storage, security)
  • 1 year of experience with server and directory service technologies (Windows, Linux, AD, DNS)
  • Desired 1 year of experience with public cloud billing; desired 1 year of experience with reporting analysis tool preferably Cloudability
  • Security compliance experience such as ITIL, PCI, ISO 27001 or SOX
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, or equivalent experience
  • Strong grasp of technology principles, an analytical mindset, and modeling skills to be able to analyze business technology needs and translate the concepts into solutions leveraging cloud technologies
  • Excellent organizational skills, and oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, making decisions based upon priorities, schedules and an understanding of business initiatives
  • Ability to apply critical thinking to all aspects of the position
  • Detail oriented with excellent documentation skills/methodologies, who is able to successfully manage multiple priorities
