Computer Operator (3rd shift). Our client in Columbus, OH has an immediate 3rd shift contract need for a Computer Operator whose responsibilities revolve around supporting all systems managed by the Data Center. Those responsibilities include: Monitoring systems on various computer platforms including multiple client/server environments, AS400, UNIX/Linux, UC4 (Automic), SAP, and Robot. This job will require working a specific shift schedule including weekends and holidays as required.

Essential Functions:

  • Functions include responding to ServiceNow incidents/requests, investigating jobs, monitoring for abends, performing job restarts and other tasks as requested by support.
  • Supporting and escalating to support groups and/or vendors.
  • Following/enforcing defined security procedures.
  • Escalate/reported system alerts for Hardware (iSeries, Windows, Linux, UNIX and Storage) to support teams
  • Monitor alerting systems: Tivoli, Bytware, Unifier, Sitescan, Fire panel, CAT monitor and MIR3
  • Perform application update processing (SAP Transports)
  • Working with application and systems analysts in problem determination for processing errors and the resolution for test and production systems
  • Monitoring and verifying change management
  • Build a detailed understanding of the job processing requirements and data flow for all application systems to support documented SLA’s
  • Maintains a variety of documentation: including operation’s procedures (SOP), run sheets, tape libraries and turnover
  • Open/Update/Assign/Resolve incidents in ServiceNow and monitor operation’s queue
  • Monitor Enterprise mailbox for requests
  • Reset user profiles/passwords
  • Kill user sessions on AS400 systems
  • Assist first level Windows and UNIX/Linux server support teams (reboot servers, cable connection verification as requested)
  • Responsible for monitoring and reacting to facilities alarms for air conditioning, water alarm, fire alarm, and power protection systems (UPS) in the computer operations area
  • Monitor system backups for NetBackup and perform iSeries BRMS backups
  • Restore NetBackup/iSeries file application and system recovery as requested
  • Responsible for the DRP off-site vaulting processes
  • Keeps technology skills up-to-date
  • This includes training on new equipment and software, learning new or modified procedures and reading technical manuals
  • Supports knowledge transfer of information and training of new staff and processes
  • Ensures adherence to Data Center policies and requirements relating to access and security of the computer operations area 
  • Monitors Data Center access login entries and allows access for approved personnel
  • Resolves user problems, from the helpdesk, phone calls and email/IM requests
  • Builds an understanding of the business and the impact of missed SLA’s and how it impacts our customers
  • Perform functions of common EIT tasks and tools (Escalation, SRT, Maintenance, Change Control, Timekeeping)
  • Works with peers, seniors and/or supervisor for troubleshooting and escalation
  • Maintains client confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Positions in this classification may perform all or some of the responsibilities above as well as other related duties as assigned

Position Requirements:

  • Focus on IBMi AS400 Active support
  • 2 to 4 years of experience in computer operations as a computer operator in large-scale data center 
  • Computer Science degree preferred but not required
  • Experience with UNIX, Linux, SAP, AS400, Windows, Automic, ROBOT, BRMS environments. 
  • Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Netcool (Tivoli)
  • Problem ticketing application (ServiceNow)
  • Possess working knowledge and understanding of key EIT processes (Escalation, SRT, RCA, DIR, Change Control, Timekeeping, Projects)
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must possess the ability to handle stressful situations, prioritize workload and perform multiple tasks concurrently
  • Must be able to work with all levels of management and customers (both internal and external)
  • Must have good problem solving skills
  • Must be able to maintain a positive, supportive attitude at all times
  • Must have good time management skills
  • The ability to work well in a team environment and possess effective interpersonal skills
  • Self motivated and flexible
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced, dynamic environment & able to pick up new concepts and ideas quickly

Work Environment:

  • Work takes place in a modern, state-of-the-art data center
  • Little travel is required (5%)
  • Must be able to work in an environment with above average noise levels and air-conditioned temperatures
  • Candidate must be able to lift objects weighing up to 45 pounds
  • Must be able to work 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift
