Database Administrator (DBA). The Database Administrator (DBA) in this contract or contract-to-hire opening in Columbus, Ohio will assist in database systems projects and facilitate development efforts from the application teams that need database work done for day-to-day support and for ongoing projects.

Duties Include but not limited to:

  • Perform activities related to the day-to-day administration and maintenance of client databases.
  • Support database development projects with SQL scripts and participate in physical database design.
  • Assist in database installations, upgrades, backups, and configuration of secure, high-performing/high-availability database infrastructure.
  • Confers with appropriate managers/leads regarding architecture, capabilities and issues of these databases.
  • 50%: Support database development projects with scripting and physical database design.
  • 20%: Install, create, patch, tune, and manage database systems and related technologies.
  • 20%: Manage technologies and processes to provide high-availability and high-performing database solutions.
  • 10%: Provide 7x24x365 assistance as necessary in support of global high-availability operations and provide on-call support for the database team.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology/MIS/CS or equivalent 
  • 5+ years of experience administering/creating MS SQL 2012/2014 and Oracle 12c/11g on Windows/UNIX/AIX and/or Linux platforms.
  • 2+ years of experience with High Availability database solutions/architectures such as Windows Clustering/Always On and/or Oracle Real Application Clusters.
  • 2+ years of setting up Standby Database databases and using Always On/DataGuard.
  • 3+ years of firsthand experience with one of the major backup packages (RMAN/TSM).
  • Must have excellent SQL, PL/SQL, PowerShell and UNIX shell scripting skills. 
  • Hands-on experience with MS SQL/Oracle performance tuning.
  • 3+ years of hands on experience with database monitoring tools is required (Management Studio/12c OEM/10g Grid).

  • Demonstrated judgment and decision-making ability with the help of lead/senior DBAs.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Availability to participate in an on-call support rotation for a 7x24x365 environment.

Desired Skills:

  • Data warehousing experience is a plus, but is not required. 
  • Type of Credentials/Licenses: MCSA - SQL Server 2012 or OCA Desirable 
  • Java or Perl experience is desirable.
  • Logical & Physical database design experience is a plus.
  • Experience with MongoDB and ElasticSearch is a plus but not required.
  • Experience with Oracle Exadata and IBM-DB2 is a plus but not required.
  • Experience with Oracle GoldenGate is a plus but not required.
