Computer Operator. The responsibilities for this contract-to-hire Computer Operator position revolve around supporting all systems managed by the Data Center. Those responsibilities include monitoring systems on various computer platforms including multiple client/server environments, iSeries (Power8), Halcyon, UNIX/Linux, SAP, Scheduling Automic (UC4) and Robot (iSeries).

This is for a 1st shift position. The schedule (08:00 AM - 4:30 PM EST) some weekends and holidays as required.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Functions include: Responding to ServiceNow incidents/requests, investigating jobs, monitoring for abends, performing job restarts and other tasks as requested by support.
  • Supporting and escalating to support groups and/or vendors.
  • Following and enforcing defined security procedures. 
  • Maintains a variety of documentation: including operations procedures (SOP), run sheets, tape vaulting (Iron Mountain) and turnover. 
  • Open/Update/Assign/Resolve incidents in ServiceNow and monitor operations queue.
  • Assist first level Windows and UNIX/Linux server support teams (reboot servers, cable connection verification as requested).
  • Responsible for monitoring and reacting to facilities alarms for air conditioning, water alarm, fire alarm, and power protection systems (UPS) in the computer operations area.
  • Monitor and perform iSeries BRMS backups.
  • iSeries restores - files, application, and system recovery as requested.
  • Monitors Data Center access login entries and allows access for approved personnel.
  • Resolves user problems, from the helpdesk, phone calls and email/IM requests. 
  • Perform functions of common EIT tasks and tools (Escalation, SRT, Maintenance, Change Control, Timekeeping (Service Now, Kronos)).

Requirements:

  • Focus on IBMi AS400 Active support
  • Understanding of iSeries/AS400 IPL process and perform weekly IPLs. 
  • Understanding of the business and the impact of missed SLAs and how it impacts customers.
  • Understanding of the batch job processing requirements and data flow.
  • Computer Science degree preferred but not required.
  • 4+ years of experience providing computer operation support.
  • iSeries/AS400 - ROBOT Scheduling, BRMS, Alert, Network, Halcyon, Enterprise Scheduling (Automic, BMS, Autosys) ServiceNow or an enterprise ticketing system
  • Major Incident Management experience a plus.
