Senior Software Engineer. Our client in Boston, MA has a long-term contract opportunity available for a Senior Software Engineer who will join an energized, Agile team and work closely with product team members to identify requirements, formulate elegant and scalable software designs, develop high-quality software solutions, and work with Quality Engineering and Site Reliability engineering teams to test and promote code from test environments into production.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Work with other engineering teams throughout the Digital Platform Group (DPG) to develop user experiences that will shape the future of education technology.
  • Cross discipline advocate who can ensure on-time delivery across engineering, user experience, product management, system administration, and release management
  • Research technology issues and work with teams staff to understand and resolve challenges
  • Work collaboratively with Product Management and PMO to define scope
  • Prototype with emerging technologies to prove product feature sets and enhance SDLC
  • Drive the adoption of conventions and best practices for back-end development
  • Ensure instrumentation and coverage metrics are addressed
  • Participate in code reviews

What You'll Need To Be Successful 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience in software engineering or related field
  • 5+ years experience as a Software Engineer or similar software development role 
  • 3+ years experience working at a high level in such languages as NodeJS, C#, Java, or Go (understanding or knowledge of Python and/or Ruby a plus)
  • Strong knowledge of Object Oriented Analysis & Design (OOAD), Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) principles, design patterns, application and enterprise integration architectures
  • Development and Integration experience with Messaging, RESTful Services
  • Basic UNIX skills (SSH/tunneling, navigating Unix environment, SCP/SFTP to transfer files)
  • Experience with Continuous Integration and Delivery
  • Experience implementing software systems for applications developed with cloud technologies (AWS)
  • Familiarity with source control tools like Git, and continuous integration tools like CircleCI and Jenkins
  • Expertise with distributed version control systems (e.g, Git, SVN, Mercurial, Accurev or similar)
  • Expertise with DDD and data modeling
  • Expertise with REST
  • Ability to research and solve problems on his/her own using Google, newsgroups, vendor support and other external resources and staying abreast of changes in the QA field, looking for new innovative ideas and solutions.
  • Ability to analyze business requirements and identify possible gaps, missing scenarios, etc.
  • Excellent ability to solution problems, come up with low level software design and be responsible for its implementation to completion
  • Review existing code and recommend refactoring where applicable 
  • Understanding of the following client side technologies/frameworks: AngularJS, jQuery, HTML/HTML5, CSS, SASS, LESS
  • Experience with bug tracking systems, like Quality Center and JIRA.
  • Experience in Agile Methodologies like Scrum or Kanban
  • Excellent ability to present and communicate own ideas, argue and defend under scrutiny
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail 
  • Ability to multi-task and ability to remain calm under pressure
  • A tenacious desire to meet established timelines 
  • Experience working with international and geographically dispersed teams spanning the globe a plus
  • Must be comfortable representing quality engineering interests in cross-department meetings and brainstorming sessions, and be comfortable having constructive debates
  • Have a track record of mentoring and enabling others, growing strong individual contributors and new leaders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with developers, testers and other team members in developing complex projects, to enhance the overall quality of the product.
